Welcome to Avery House, located just one block from Galena’s Historic Main Street and serving as a gateway to “The City That Time Forgot.” Built in 1848 and once home to Union Army Major George S. Avery and his family, the house reflects Galena’s rich history through its vernacular architecture and mid-19th-century charm, offering a blend of Victorian tradition and casual comfort. Guests are invited to enjoy authentic hospitality in thoughtfully designed rooms inspired by Victorian-era style, a hot breakfast in the café-style dining room, and relaxation on a shaded veranda overlooking the gardens. Whether visiting for a peaceful retreat or a refined base for exploration, Avery House offers a timeless atmosphere where every stay connects guests to a 200-year legacy of welcoming travelers and creating lasting stories.

What is your favorite event in Galena, or your favorite way to participate and give back?

We see membership in the Bed & Breakfast Innkeepers of Galena as a valuable opportunity to deepen our involvement and continue giving back to the community, and we look forward to being part of it!
